NEW YORK (BUSINESS WIRE) Overture Networks, the industry's trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider, today announced the addition of G.8032 Ethernet ring protection switching to its UTS 4000 optical edge switch. The addition of G.8032 ring protection switching gives Overture's customers a technologically advanced and cost-effective solution for building secure mobile backhaul networks as they look to support the mounting bandwidth requirements of 3G and 4G services.
"Service providers today need powerful solutions that help them build resilient Carrier Ethernet networks but also retain support for legacy services," said Dave Stehlin, President of Overture Networks. "The UTS 4000 provides the crucial support for this multi-client, multi-technology space with converged gigabit Ethernet and high performance DS1 pseudowire capability. Already with unmatched bandwidth, Ethernet OAM features and flexibility, adding G.8032 ring protection ensures carriers can deliver the highest quality of service."
G.8032 ring support accommodates new Ethernet-based mobile services such as 4G LTE and WiMAX and is a key component in replacing older SONET/SDH rings. ITU G.8032 Ethernet Ring protection switching is optimized for high-performance Carrier Ethernet applications, giving customers SONET-like performance with all of the bandwidth and flexibility of Carrier Ethernet. Features such as 50msec protection switching, deterministic performance and simplified design rules add quality, accelerate deployment and lower cost.
The Overture UTS 4000 product family enables converged Ethernet and up to 24 optional DS1 pseudowires over native Ethernet transport. The UTS 4000 platform is ideal for mobile backhaul, enterprise access or infrastructure applications which require carrier-class Ethernet with fine-grain CoS and SONET-quality DS1 transport across a native Ethernet infrastructure.
In addition, the UTS 4000 can be paired with the Overture Networks' UTX 8500 PWE gateway to allow carriers to enable a 1588v2 solution without the cost and complexity of deploying separate 1588v2 timing servers. The UTX 8500 PWE gateway is the industry's most scalable and cost-effective solution; supporting 1,000 protected DS1s in a completely redundant system. The UTX 8500 leverages existing BITS or SONET line timing to deliver an integrated 1588v2 timing master server which supports up to 500 UTS 4000s.
