Nortel Inks Deal With Poland's Largest Telecom Carrier

Nortel Networks announced that it has inked a deal to supply advanced optical networking equipment to Poland's largest telecommunications carrier.

Telekomunikacja Polska (TP) will use Nortel's Optical Metro 5200 (OM5200) dense wave divisional multiplexing platform to meet a growing demand in the Polish financial services industry and government for high volume data networking. TP plans to deliver high-speed networked storage, business continuity and disaster recovery services. The service will permit the real-time mirroring of critical data information to remote sites.

"Nortel is supporting TP's commitment to offer its customers secure and reliable high-speed data services," Nortel's TP account director Jacek Figua said in a statement. "Using Nortel's metro DWDM solutions, TP will have the opportunity to help their business customers address storage protection requirements, simplify their networks and reduce operational costs."

Nortel says its OM5200 platform is designed to provide great flexibility and scalability. It supports a wide assortment of data services ranging from Gigabit Ethernet and the mainframe Enterprise System Connection (ESCON) standard to the now-ubiquitous Fiber Channel storage area network technology.
