Motorola, Skype Team To Deliver VoIP

Companies to co-market connectivity options for Skype's growing base of more than 25 million registered users.

In a major VoIP development, Motorola announced Monday that it will team up with Skype Technologies to co-market connectivity options for Skype's growing base of more than 25 million registered global users.

Announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, the firms said they will explore opportunities broadly across both companies.

In a statement, the companies said: "The initial focus of the collaboration will be on co-marketing of new optimized Motorola 'Skype Ready' companion products, such as Bluetooth headsets, dongles, and speakerphones, as well as delivery of the Skype Internet Telephony experience on select Motorola mobile devices."

Liz Altman, Motorola Mobile Devices' vice president of business development stated that Skype is "a natural fit with our vision of simple and seamless connectivity." Skype has been signing co-marketing agreements with other manufacturers of mobile telecommunications devices, but Motorola is the largest to date. Motorola is the second largest producer of mobile handsets " Nokia is the largest.
