MCI has rolled out a significant upgrade to its Private IP service, its MPLS-based VPN service that lets customers connect offices around the world. The new features expand the classes of service offered for Private IP, and add new management tools.

The new management tools offers Private IP customers a comprehensive picture of their enterprise networking environment, including application availability, server performance and network capacity.

The new system proactively monitors the health of a network. With it, IT managers can analyze historical trends and predict where and when more bandwidth will be needed. Customers will be able to determine which sites are under or over-utilizing bandwidth, which applications are showing degradation and which servers are carrying data most efficiently.

"By empowering companies to better manage their IT infrastructure, companies can transition to a converged environment with greater ease and confidence," Nancy Gofus, MCI senior vice president of Product Management, said in a statement. "These enhancements make it easier for enterprises to run 'everything over IP,' while ensuring high levels of performance and reliability."
