The French telecommunications carrier Cegetel has chosen Ciena Corporation's optical transport systems for its nationwide long-haul network. Cegetel will deploy Ciena's CoreStreamT Agility for increased capacity and flexibility in its core network to support the adoption of high-capacity services at the network edge.

CoreStream will help Cegetal more easily deploy high-value services as Cegetel's consumer, enterprise, operator and ISP customers place increasing demands on the network with broadband applications.

Ciena had previously announced multi-year agreements with Cegetel to deploy its DWDM systems in 1998 and 2001 Cegetel was Ciena's first customer in France. Cegetel operates a nationwide network that serves 3.8 million residential customers and 20,000 enterprises.
