Avocent aims to simplify IT management across branch offices by enabling its MergePoint and LANDesk Patch Manager software to run in Cisco's Integrated Services Router (ISR).Doing so will facilitate administration of servers and PCs from a single routing device, according to Avocent, whose software will work on Cisco's new Application eXtension Platform (AXP), a Linux-based hardware module built into Cisco's ISR. AXP was announced Thursday at Cisco's Partner Summit 2008.

Avocent said it plans to offer MergePoint and LANDesk Patch Manager for AXP modules inside the Cisco 1841, 2800 Series and 3800 Series routers. "With the deployment of Avocent software on Cisco AXP, IT professionals will have highly secure anytime, anywhere access to servers and PCs at remote locations,? a Cisco VP said in a statement.

General availability is expected later this year.ChannelWeb
