Sony Electronics reported that it has certified its SAIT and PetaSite storage systems with virtual tape library software from FalconStor. Sony said the certification will better enable its customers to handle the high-speed, backup and recovery workflow issues associated with data-intensive networks and enterprise networks.

FalconStor's VTL solution leverages the firm's IPStor enterprise-level software. The software will enable Sony drives and storage systems to use disks to emulate a tape drive/library. The result is that administrators will have an easy way to create and attach virtual tape drives and libraries. On the network, backup servers will recognize these virtual tape drives and libraries as physical tape drives and libraries
