LAS VEGAS -- BMC Software (NYSE:BMC) today announced the release of BMC ProactiveNet Analytics, a highly sophisticated early warning system” that delivers preemptive, service-aware Business Service Management (BSM) for IT operations. BMC ProactiveNet Analytics adds an analytics layer to BSM that alerts IT operations staff about impending performance abnormalities, thereby reducing the time from problem detection to resolution by up to 90 percent.

According to Gartner, “the need to increase IT operational efficiencies, along with being proactive by getting advanced knowledge of impending problems, is leading IT executives to adopt learning technologies that adapt to constant IT changes and provide action-oriented information on potential IT infrastructure issues.” 1

Unlike traditional, reactive management tools that focus on availability monitoring, BMC ProactiveNet Analytics detects and prioritizes problems before they impact business-critical applications, service level objectives, or end users. A “smart product” that learns the normal performance behavior of every monitored attribute — including business indicators and end user metrics — across the IT environment, BMC ProactiveNet Analytics teaches itself about the customer’s environment and then automatically adapts to subsequent changes. This eliminates the need for IT staff to manually create and maintain rules-based thresholds, a costly, highly repetitive operation.

To accomplish this, BMC ProactiveNet Analytics continuously correlates thousands of data points from applications and devices monitored across the IT infrastructure. When an issue is confirmed, a list of probable causes for the degraded performance is automatically provided. By generating only Intelligent Events, BMC ProactiveNet Analytics provides significant alarm reduction that, by reducing the total number of threshold events by a factor of ten, allows IT staff to focus instead on a few, actionable events.

“IT organizations spend an exorbitant amount of time and resources trying to understand and prioritize the sheer number of events that clog IT operations consoles on daily, even hourly basis,” said Roy Ritthaler, Director, Product Management, Distributed Systems Management, BMC Software. “BMC ProactiveNet Analytics zeros in on relevant IT issues and reduces service level non-compliance times dramatically, all while providing insight into exactly how performance degradations are affecting business processes.”BMC Software Inc.
