NEW YORK -- Varonis Systems Inc. (http://www.varonis.com), the leader in unstructured data governance, today announced the availability of version 4.0 for Varonis DatAdvantage and Varonis DataPrivilege, which integrates the two applications to dramatically increase an organizations unstructured data protection capabilities. Version 4.0 represents a huge leap forward in innovation for unstructured data management by helping reduce errors, guide decision-making processes, improve accountability and limit risk of data loss.

Because all of the major steps to data protection have been automated, a business can essentially get up and running with a framework for managing, protecting and monitoring file share data within hours. This new software suite more tightly couples the functions of DatAdvantage and DataPrivilege so that IT operations personnel and data owners can be linked by a guided process for effective data entitlement decision-making. Specifically, the Varonis data governance suite:

  • Links data owners, users and IT for effective decision-making

  • Identifies the people responsible for unstructured data

  • Builds policies that put data owners in control

  • Provides business intelligence on data use

  • Protects data by enforcing business policies

  • Generates data use audit reports and sends to all stakeholders

“One of the biggest challenges in unstructured data protection is managing data entitlements and avoiding what is known as ‘permission creep’. Customers have long wrestled with how to remove an individual’s access rights once the business need for them has been met,” said Laura DuBois, program director, Storage Software Practice at IDC. “There has long been a need for a solution that takes the guesswork out of assigning and revoking permissions so that organizations can start applying least privilege access with consistency and regularity.”
