If you're a fan of wireless networking, then this year's NetWorld + Interop show is the place to be. Doing a search for available wireless networks brings up a long list of available SSIDs, from just about any location in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

In the press room, however, we're spoiled. Though Extreme Networks was kind enough to set up two wireless LANs specifically for the media, the networking choice of many here are the numerous direct Ethernet connections, running at 100 Mbps (according to my laptop, anyway).

Wireless is cool, but faster is always better.

New Names For N + I

Here are some reader submissions to my request for new names for NetWorld + Interop:NetOpIA(for Networld Interop Information Assembly)(thanks to reader Joe K)

Another reader, a longtime Interop attendee who suffered from a layoff the last couple years, wrote:

Why not rename it "N2", as in N squared, or next-generation Networld, or more importantly a conference where people get together to network in human terms about networking technologies. They could call the education tracks N2ition, of which the cost would of course be you got it, tuition.

Anyhow, here's hoping that whatever they call it, the reincarnated N+I brings back some of the camaraderie and sizzle to networking. Some new magicians and different freebies wouldn't hurt either... :-)

(thanks to reader Dan M)N + I Show Blog

Sometimes it seems like every clown

has a blog these days. While blogs are numerous, the N+I organizers have done a good job with their show blog, which you can find here.

There's a little bit of cheerleading going on, but for the most part the entries are pretty solid. Though written by show employees, the blog strives for editorial objectivity, and for the most part succeeds.
