Dune Networks and Vitesse to interoperate for dense Ethernet aggregation applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Dune Networks, a leading provider of networking devices for Data Center, Enterprise, and Carrier Ethernet platforms, and Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (VTSS.PK), a leading provider of innovative and technically advanced IC solutions for networking applications, today announced their intent to have Dunes next-generation devices and Vitesse’s recently introduced triple-speed Ethernet MACs interoperate using next generation XAUI interfaces.
“The combination of Vitesse and Dune’s devices enable highly-flexible Ethernet aggregation solutions for Enterprise and Data Center switches, by supporting multiple types of host interfaces for both copper and optical links,” commented Ofer Iny, Dune’s CTO.
These devices are critical for driving down port costs for Gigabit Ethernet, which is the primary technology of choice for the next generation Carrier, Enterprise, and Data Center systems. Cost reductions are achieved through higher port density, lower pin-count, longer board trace lengths, and better scalability versus existing SPI-4 solutions. The next generation SERDES-based interfaces like XAUI and SPAUITM extend the standard XAUI -- by introducing channelization, packet interleaving, and refined flow control.
