As you look out onto 2005, what are your biggest challenges? Do you need to beef up security, deploy a converged voice and data network, incorporate WLANs into your enterprise, make the move to 10-gigabit Ethernet?

Most likely, it's all of the above, and more.

But no matter what your biggest challenges are, if you think only about hardware and software, you're overlooking your most important asset - the people who work for you.

Yes, I know it's a cliche. You hear this kind of thing all the time. But it's not less true just because many people have said it.

After all, hardware changes. Software changes. The business environment changes. The only things that lasts are the talent, drive, and intelligence of the people who work for you.

So when you plan for 2005, start off with what's most important. Plan to reward the best of those who work for you, figure out how to keep them, and find ways to attract even more talent.

It'll not only help your network run more smoothly, but it'll make you look like a star as well, because collective intelligence, after all, outshines even the brightest among us.
