Intel plans to roll out new versions of its Xeon processor next quarter. In the meantime, they've come up with a name for the chip: Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, or EM64T.
EM64T is a feature in the company's upcoming uni- and dual-processor Xeon offerings for the server and workstation market that allows the devices to work in both 32- and 64-bit modes.
Intel said it would offer the 32/64-bit designs at its Intel Developer Forum in February. Server manufacturers Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Unisys have revealed plans to offer systems based on the new Xeons.
In addition, Intel says the devices will include Hyper-Threading technology, PCI Express, DDR2 support, enhanced power management, SSES instructions, high-definition audio, faster bus speeds, faster frequencies, and enhanced security and virtualization technologies.
