In one sweeping move, voice over IP (VoIP) will be offered nationwide in 600 Circuit City retail outlets that will provide Vonage Web phone service.

Announced Friday, Circuit City will offer two months of free service when customers sign up for Vonage service and agree to purchase a $99.99 starter kit. The Vonage plans range from $14.99 for residential service to $49.99 for small-business service.

All plans include caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, call forwarding, and emergency calling service, Vonage said, adding that other options include various schemes for checking voicemail.

Vonage said it has more than 100,000 VoIP lines in service and is adding customers at the rate of 15,000 a month.
