Symantec Vision in Pictures
Symantec's weird week in Sin City
June 17, 2008
Kudos to Symantec, which put some effort into livening up its annual Vision event in Las Vegas last week, offering some respite from the endless PowerPoints that are fast becoming the lingua franca of the storage industry.
From the outset, it was pretty clear that Symantec was aiming for something of an offbeat atmosphere, choosing a former stand-up comic to host proceedings and hiring a wise-cracking house band:

Even the set at the Venetian hotel was kind of out there, with Symantec execs emerging from a weird giant neon tube, which looked as if it was on loan from Darth Vader.

Symantec uses the force.
Outside of Symantecs Death Star, Vegas was, well, pretty much Vegas, as typified by the nightly pyrotechnics over the road at Treasure Island:Figure 3: Fireworks and pirates: should be mandatory at tradeshows.
Back at the Venetian, life progressed at a somewhat slower pace, although clearly not slow enough for at least one person attending the conference:

"How much to the airport, signore?"

After two trips to Sin City in just over three weeks, who wouldn’t need a rest?
