Solarflare CTOs launch 10 Gbit/s Ethernet blog

IRVINE, Calif. -- Solarflare Communications, the leader in standards-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) silicon, today announced Up and Down the Network Stack”, a blog authored by Steve Pope, PhD and George Zimmerman, PhD, Solarflare’s chief technology officers. This new resource is located at 10gigabitethernet.typepad.com and covers topics including enterprise technology issues, data center trends in iSCSI and virtualization, power and energy efficiency and network performance.

Pope is the CTO for controllers at Solarflare. He co-founded Level 5 Networks that merged with Solarflare in 2006. Prior to Level 5, he was a post-doctorate researcher in the field of high-speed networks and operating systems at Olivetti Research Labs, which later became AT&T Laboratories Cambridge. He holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Cambridge.

Zimmerman is a co-founder and the CTO for physical layer technologies. He is an acknowledged expert in wireline communications and has been a defining force in the development of 10GBASE-T—leading the initial formation of the IEEE 10GBASE-T Study Group and contributing significantly throughout the 802.3an standards process. Prior to Solarflare, Zimmerman pioneered DSL technologies as chief scientist and vice president of strategic planning at PairGain Technologies. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Caltech.

The establishment of this blog allows Solarflare CTOs Pope and Zimmerman to share information and opinions with peers based on their extensive industry knowledge and experience, as well as foster community with a broader audience.
