TOKYO -- FalconStor, Japan, Inc. (hereafter FalconStor: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo Japan. CEO: Mr. Wenxian Chen), a Japanese subsidiary of FalconStor Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: FALC), the leading provider of disk-based data protection and storage virtualization, announced today that Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (hereafter NRI: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo Japan. President, CEO & COO: Mr. Akihisa Fujinuma), Japans leading think-tank and system integrator, has adopted the FalconStor® Virtual Tape Library (VTL) as a key component of its facilities management system. NRI took delivery of the system earlier this month.

Today, with information security and business continuity drawing the attention of enterprises, the management and storage of valuable data has become more and more important. FalconStor VTL dramatically improves backup performance by supporting existing tape-based backup processes with virtual tapes created on high-speed storage devices. Mixed environments with tape drives and backup applications from different vendors pose no problem for FalconStor VTL, which provides continuous and highly reliable data backup capabilities in any environment. This contributes to a considerable reduction in administrative workload and cost, which in turn leads to drastic TCO reduction.

The introduction of the FalconStor VTL as its backup system will increase the security of NRI’s Internet Data Center (iDC). With centralized storage and management of access-trail information that includes visitors’ facial photos and any baggage they are carrying, as well as ID information and security camera footage, the VTL will greatly improve NRI’s system management efficiency and user browsability. NRI will officially start to run the system in February 2008.
