SAN DIEGO -- Neterion Inc., the industry leader in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter market, and iStor Networks, a leading provider of iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) network storage solutions, announced they are conducting a live demonstration of an iSCSI-based storage area network (SAN) operating at line rate 10 Gbps speeds in the Solution Center at the Spring Storage Networking World Conference this week in San Diego. The network features Xframe II, a member of Neterion’s family of V-NIC™ 10 GbE adapters, and iStor’s GigaStorATX™ 10 GbE network storage controller.

“Neterion and iStor want to clearly demonstrate to small and medium businesses (SMBs) that they no longer have to make price/performance tradeoffs for their storage area networking needs,” said Philippe Levy, vice president of marketing at Neterion. “iSCSI over 10 Gigabit Ethernet enables companies to leverage their existing IP network infrastructure and expertise, to roll out high-performance and high-reliability IP SANs at a fraction of the cost of Fibre Channel (FC), and without the need for highly-specialized FC experts.”

By combining Xframe II that uses the PCI-X 2.0 bus architecture with Double Date Rate technology and the GigaStorATX storage controller with 12 embedded processors on the ASIC, iStor and Neterion developed a 10 Gbps storage network that delivers a wide range of mission critical solutions:

  • The network can address more than 80,000 Input/Output Operations per Second (IOPS) for complex online transaction processing (OLTP) requirements such as database and Web-based applications

  • 10 Gbps performance is ideal for bandwidth intensive applications such as video streaming and disk-to-disk data replication. This network solution can perform an impressive 1160 MBytes/sec to address these customer requirements

  • Scalability of disk capacity is built into the storage network so that additional storage systems can be easily added as connectivity requirements increase

  • Disaster recovery and data protection of key company information assets are provided through a variety of applications that enable low cost remote replication and ease of data access

  • Security of information assets is ensured with advanced security capabilities including the Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) and SSL encryption

“This record-breaking demonstration is the latest example of how iSCSI deployed with 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity can be an attractive storage networking alternative for companies of all sizes,” stated Jay Kramer VP of WW Marketing at iStor. “And iSCSI-based storage systems enable us to simplify storage management for end users while lowering their administration and operational costs.”Neterion Inc.
