Mercury Computer Systems announced new XRi cluster systems with advanced graphics capabilities based on Intel Xeon processors and chip sets. Announced Monday, the latest additions to Mercury's XR Series also feature PCI Express technology and high-speed I/O options.

With operating system support for both Windows and Linux as standard features, the latest XRi Series family of products is available in a variety of configurations, the firm said.

Mercury added that the new XRi-400 rack-mount server and XRi-400g rack-mount engine support 800-MHz Front Side buses and DDR-2 memory. The firm's vice president and general manager, Didier Thibaud, said in a statement: "With the industry-standard PCI Express system bus, Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand interconnects, and comprehensive optimization and integration services, Mercury can provide proven, cost-effective solutions for the most demanding applications."

Unveiled at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists conference in Denver, Mercury indicated the new products can be effectively utilized in oil- and gas-exploration applications.
