5:50 PM - Today, IDC numbers show Veritas Software Corp. (Nasdaq: VRTS) lost revenue in all its major storage segments last quarter as it prepared to become part of Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC).

What better day for Symantec to promote Veritas CEO Gary Bloom? (See IDC: Storage Software Surges.)

Instead of getting the boot, Bloom's been made president and given responsibility for all six Symantec business units. He'd been chairman and co-president, but became Symantecs one and only president when John Schwarz resigned to become CEO of Business Objects (Nasdaq: BOBJ).

Another bad quarter, and maybe Bloom will have CEO John Thompson’s job.
