InterVideo Inc. on Monday rolled out iVideoToGo, an application that lets users copy personal videos for playback on Sony PSP game consoles or Apple Computer iPods.

The move brings H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Codec(AVC) technology to consumers for $29.95 in software that the company says takes only three steps to convert DVDs and video files into PSP- and iPod-compatible files.

In addition to supporting H.264 and MPEG-4 formats for iPods and PSPs, iVideoToGo supports DVD-Videos, AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MP4, DivX, ASF, DVR-MS, 3GP and others.

iVideoToGo includes InterVideo's H.264 codec. H.264, known as the AVC specification or MPEG 4-Part 10, provides two to three times the compression efficiency of other applications, such as the MPEG-2 standard, which could enable users to pack more movies on their PSPs and iPods.
