BILLERICA, Mass. -- IBRIX Inc., the leader in scalable file serving solutions, today announced extraordinary customer momentum in the media and entertainment sector in 2006. Media and entertainment companies are experiencing rapid digital transformation: as animation rendering and visual special effects, for example, have become more advanced, data throughput requirements have jumped substantially, yet conventional file serving approaches have not kept pace.

In 2006, five of the top twenty revenue-grossing movies were animated, feature-length films, according to Reuters. The granularity required to create more lifelike characters–the hairs on a monster or reflections off a car’s bumper—all require significant amounts of computer-processing power. A single film may be comprised of over 150,000 frames, each rendered digitally. The inability to deliver data to processors can significantly impact film production schedules. Animated film studios such as Walt Disney Feature Animation and others have turned to IBRIX and its flagship offering, IBRIX Fusion™, to solve this file serving challenge.

"We realized that our legacy solution was not able to deliver the required performance needed to handle the visual richness and technical complexity of Meet the Robinsons," said Jack Brooks, Vice President, Technology, Disney. "IBRIX Fusion removed I/O bottlenecks in our file systems, allowing our rendering application to perform as much as 100% faster in a stable and highly scalable environment, plus, we were able to migrate data on-the-fly without shutting down production."
