Gresham open platform tape virtualization enables OEM to build onsuccess in HP nonStop high availability market
October 16, 2007
AUSTIN, Texas -- Gresham Enterprise Storage, the leading developer of data protection solutions with vision, announced today that Tributary Systems, Inc. (TSI), the global leader in secure storage and virtualization solutions for the HP NonStop environment, is leveraging Greshams Clareti VTL tape infrastructure virtualization technology to expand its business in the open systems market.
“Gresham’s tape virtualization technology, designed from the ground up for the open systems market, delivers sophisticated solutions to enterprise backup and data protection management problems that were previously intractable. With TSI’s use of Gresham’s technology to serve the high availability HP NonStop space for over a year, and its current expansion into the open systems market on the Gresham platform, it’s clear that Gresham is able to solve the needs of a broad spectrum of enterprise customers,” said Steve Norall, Senior Analyst, Taneja Group.
Since 2006, TSI has been an OEM partner of Gresham Enterprise Storage. TSI’s ViTAL (Virtual Integrated Tape and Library) product is based on Gresham’s Clareti VTL, a tape virtualization director, and contains proprietary firmware which allows it to interface with the closed, proprietary Guardian™ operating system of the HP NonStop high availability platform. TSI has been selling the ViTAL solution successfully into the HP NonStop environments of major telecommunications and retail companies, as well as credit card processing firms and 911 emergency systems. The majority of companies that have NonStop implementations also have a variety of other platforms in their storage environments. The Gresham solution now enables TSI to address the tape management requirements of those platforms as well, and does so from a consolidated view.
“Gresham has an outstanding toolset with its ability to consolidate heterogeneous computing platforms for our customers. As a specialist provider of high availability storage solutions, TSI selected Gresham for its ability to meet the extraordinary uptime requirements of HP NonStop, and we immediately recognized the cross-platform capabilities of Gresham's open standard tape infrastructure virtualization solution. This was a crucial factor in our decision to OEM the product,” said Shawn Sabanayagam, CEO, Tributary Systems, Inc.
