Gateway has posted the highest annual percentage revenue growth in the volume server market in 2003, according to preliminary results of a study released last week by IDC.

The study, "Worldwide Server Market Review, 2003," looked at revenue growth among the top 15 volume server vendors, including Dell, Hewlett-Packard and IBM. Gateway's percentage growth cited was 50.4 percent on sales of approximately $52 million. IDC also reported that the volume server market grew at a heady rate of 9.7 percent year-over-year, the fastest growing segment of that market.

In a statement, Gateway attributed its growth last year to a number of reasons. First, the company significantly expanded its portfolio in 2003, growing its product line from five servers to 15 server-related products geared toward small and midsize businesses as well as enterprise class customers. Second, strategic relationships with partners such as IBM Global Services and SuSE gave the company greater exposure. Third, and finally, Gateway gave a nod to its investment in its Enterprise Systems Division and the work by Scott Weinbrandt (a former Dell executive) and his team.
