SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced its hard disk drive shipment results for the fourth calendar quarter. Shipments of Fujitsu mobile hard disk drives (HDDs) during this period hit a record breaking 7.1M units, an increase of over 39% from the same period last year. In addition, enterprise units for the quarter reached 1.8M units, a jump of 50% from the same quarter in 2005.

Fujitsu continued its impressive growth with its mobile hard disk drive family, reaching an all-time high in shipment volume during the October-December period. An early leader in advocating Serial ATA (SATA) technology, the HDD manufacturer also revealed remarkable gains in the ongoing transition to SATA. Nearly 75% of all Fujitsu mobile units shipped within this timeframe featured the SATA interface.

During the fourth quarter, Fujitsu also maintained its status as the second largest enterprise hard disk drive supplier. The company currently provides a comprehensive family of enterprise products, including hard disk drives in 10K and 15K spindle speeds that feature 2.5" and 3.5" Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and 2Gbps and 4Gbps Fibre Channel (FC). SAS technology is also ramping up steadily, representing over 40% of Fujitsu enterprise shipments.

In addition, Fujitsu publicized two landmark achievements that will significantly impact the industry. In November 2006, the company announced a breakthrough in thermal assisted magnetic recording that will enable the implementation of one Tb/in2 recording technology, which in turn will allow for the development of higher capacity products.

In December, Fujitsu followed this news by introducing the world's first 300GB 2.5" hard disk drive. The groundbreaking mobile HDD is the company's second generation product engineered using perpendicular magnetic recording(PMR) technology and its third ultra-high capacity model, and will similarly address market demand for products featuring increased storage capacity. The 300GB HDDs will be well-suited for the audio/video computing market, particularly gaming, video editing, audio recording and DVR functionality, as well as for the high-end personal computing markets."Fujitsu has always maintained an aggressive approach when it comes to investing in R&D, and our efforts have paid off with the market adoption of Serial technology, as well as our introduction of the industry's first 300GB 2.5" hard disk drive," said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development. "We are thrilled with the record breaking numbers from this quarter, and are pleased to finish 2006 on a positive note."
