Fujitsu Tuesday added a new mid-range blade server to its Primergy family, a 7U-format enclosure that can hold up to 10 compact blades.

The new Primergy BX600 sports room for the 10 blades -- each of which can be configured with up to a pair of Intel Xeon processors -- packs 12GB of ECC DDR-SDRAM, and features up to two hot-plug SCSI hard drives with a total capacity of 292GB.

The chassis also has space for up to four power modules and four fans for redundancy, said Fujitsu.

Later in the year, the company will make quad blades available that fit into the BX600. Up to five of the Xeon-based quads can be slipped into the chassis, and customers will be able to mix and match dual and quad blades.

Prices for the BX600 start at $10,400.
