Emulex announces collaboration With Nuova Systems to develop Fibre Channel over Ethernet products

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- EmulexCorporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced it has signed a technologyagreement with Nuova Systems to utilize Nuova technology in thedevelopment of a family of Emulex Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)products. Emulex products are currently undergoing development testingand the Company will begin delivering samples to OEMs for qualificationin the first half of 2008, followed by production shipments in thesecond half of 2008.
"The decision to partner with Nuova to bring Emulex's FCoE products tomarket was based on their unique technology, systems approach and longterm vision," said Ameesh Divatia, general manager and senior vicepresident, Intelligent Network Products, Emulex Corp. "Our goal is toprovide a seamless migration path to FCoE, which enables end users topreserve and leverage the substantial investments they have made inFibre Channel technology and SAN management tools."
Designed to natively transport Fibre Channel traffic over the Ethernetnetwork, FCoE will take advantage of the proposed enhancements to10Gb/s Ethernet. The proposed enhancements to 10Gb/s Ethernet willprovide the level of performance and reliable delivery of data requiredfor enterprise storage environments. Further, FCoE enables fabricconvergence within the data center by allowing IT managers to utilizecommon network technology for both storage and data networks, and pavesthe way for a single network sharing both data types.
