Dot Hill Adds Speedier Interfaces

Dot Hill Systems Corp. has added to SANnet II product line with the Ultra320 SCSI array and enterprise-class Serial ATA storage solutions.

The Ultra320 SCSI is a 1U blade storage system for rack environments where space is at a premium, and where there's a requirement for more speed than previous SCSI interfaces. The Ultra320 has four drive bays with a capacity of up to 584 gigabytes and easily integrates into Windows, Linux, NetWare and Unix environments, according to the vendor.

The Ultra320 system provides more than five 9s reliability and meets the Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) Level 3 standard used by the telecommunications industry and the MIL-STD-810F standard used by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Dot Hill's other new product, SANnet II SATA drives, are intended to provide businesses with more capacity at a significantly lower cost.

The SANnet II SATA storage systems offer 12 drive bays and 3 terabytes of capacity in 2U of rack space, and can scale up to 16Tbytes of usable RAID 5 storage by adding drives and expansion systems. SANnet II SATA supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 3, and 5, and customers can opt for single or dual RAID controllers and AC or DC power. Multiple Fibre Channel host ports also enable direct connection of up to 12 servers, without the use of external switches, providing a lower cost networked storage solution while maintaining high availability, Dot Hill said."SATA storage offers enterprises the ability to retrieve valuable data in a more timely manner, which is now required by law for publicly traded companies and within certain industries such as financial services and health care," said Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates, in a statement.

Pricing for the SANnet II Blade Ultra320 ranges from $5,000 to $10,000; the SANnet II SATA fully loaded with 12 250-Gbyte drives, dual controllers and 3 Tbytes of capacity is $39,990. Both products will be available the last week of June.
