BILLERICA, Mass. -- IBRIX Inc., the leader in scalable file serving solutions, today unveiled IBRIX Fusion FileMigrator, a new data tiering feature that is available on IBRIX Fusion™ 4.2 software. IBRIX Fusion FileMigrator manages data movement across the entire global namespace, allowing IT administrators to set policies and move data according to usage in order to optimize storage resources, improve overall storage efficiency, and reduce total cost of ownership.

IBRIX Fusion FileMigrator is policy-based and allows system administrators to set guidelines and automatically move infrequently accessed data to slower, cost-effective storage and store only the high-demand data on faster, higher performing storage. The file movement policy rules can be based on attributes such as file size or file type, last access time, file modification time, and user ownership. Even though files are moved physically between storage tiers, it is totally transparent to applications and to the end-users because the file directory location does not change.

“For companies with rapidly growing storage needs and IT costs, it is critical to keep the price per gigabyte down without compromising performance,” said Milan Shetti, President, IBRIX. “IBRIX Fusion FileMigrator continuously and automatically moves information to strike a balance between the cost of storage hardware and the value of the data it stores. This feature enables the most effective use of storage and eliminates the need for system administrators to worry about managing data migration manually.”
