Cisco Systems Inc. announced a new wireless networking solution for K-12 schools at the K-12 Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) Conference in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

The CiscoSecure Wireless Solution for K-12 is a complete suite of secure networking hardware, software and mobile computing devices designed to allow schools to extend their networks to any facility regardless of wiring availability. Configurations vary, but an all-inclusive package could include Cisco's Aironet Series access points, Catalyst switches, Clean Access Control Server and routers. Packages might also include the Cisco Security Agent, a CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solutions Engine and wireless laptops.

"Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) have become an essential tool for educators, providing them with anytime/anywhere access to the Internet, email, and key productivity applications -- essentially all of their daily information and communication needs at their fingertips," Cisco's global lead for education Charles Fadel said in a statement. "The CiscoSecure Wireless Solution for K-12 helps improve efficacy by extending the availability of content and applications alike."

The CiscoSecure Wireless Solution for K-12 is available now, with pricing dependent on configuration and options.
