Broadcom Corporation announced Tuesday a new ROBOSwitch family featuring a 48-port Fast Ethernet (FE) single-chip switch.

The product family provides enterprise-level features for small and medium business networks. Broadcom noted that the new family is the eighth iteration of its ROBOSwitch technology.

The BCM5348 is a 48-port FE switch featuring 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports with 24 integrated 10/100 PHYs on a single chip. Another member of the product family is the BCM5347, which has a lower port density.

The new ROBOSwitch family features Broadcom's WebSuperSmart software for advanced Web-based network management. The solution features automatic security, IEEE 802.11x high-performance spanning tree, and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping.
