LAS VEGAS -- Leading SSL VPN company Aventail today announced an updated version of its Aventail Mobile solution for PDAs and smart phones. Aventail Mobile 2 extends Aventail’s ease of use and end point control with key features such as mobile roaming, which enables users to move between wireless networks without losing the VPN connection, and device watermarking, which gives administrators the ability to both classify a managed device and disable access from the device if lost or stolen.
Unlike other mobile access solutions, Aventail is the only vendor to provide organizations with a single, remote access gateway for all access, whether from a mobile device or any other managed or unmanaged system. For users, Aventail enables fast and easy access from any Web-enabled phone, including Windows Mobile PDAs and smart phones, Symbian smart phones, DoCoMo iMode devices, and any WAP2.0-enabled device.
Aventail Mobile 2 provides complete security and control of mobile device access to critical network resources from any wireless network environment. Aventail technology provides the same granular access control for all mobile devices, as well as for Linux, Macintosh and Windows systems. For administrators, Aventail Mobile is part of Aventail’s Unified Policy model, which provides centralized management for all users, devices, and resources.
“Mobile devices have become an indispensable productivity tool for many corporate users. However, because most mobile deployments have been either entirely unmanaged or tactical in nature, most firms have not developed standard policies, processes, or technology that support mobile security,” states Ellen Daley, vice president and research director, Forrester Research, in the report entitled, Mobile Device Security in 2006. “The growing use of mobile devices for business applications in the enterprise poses significant security threats as customer and corporate data is dispersed on devices.”
