PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Atempo, Inc., a leading provider of cross-platform data protection and archiving solutions, today announced its entry into the enterprise data archiving market with the new Atempo Archive Server (AAS), an advanced file-based enterprise archiving platform designed to optimize the archiving and retrieval process for business critical files, directories and unstructured data types. Based upon Atempos years of expertise in data protection and storage technologies, Atempo Archive Server has been designed from the ground up as an independent archiving solution, with a dedicated meta-data management system and open architecture, to support the growing need for comprehensive information archiving and retrieval.

“The archiving market category is the fastest growing segment in the storage management software market,” said Laura DuBois, research director, storage software, IDC. “In fact, IDC predicts that the archiving and HSM market will grow from a little more than $600 million in 2005 to $1.7 billion in 2010. This is due in large part to the mounting need for storage solutions that support regulatory compliance and litigation demands. As companies invest in technologies for reliable data retention it is important that they employ solutions that have been purpose-built for data archiving to ensure complete and long-term data integrity with comprehensive and flexible search options to ease data retrieval.”

“Information is the single largest asset of a company,” said Francois Gauthier, vice president of marketing, Atempo. “In addition to backing up production data, the long-term protection of critical data assets is becoming more complex as fixed content data volumes continues to grow at exponential rates. This information must not only be retained, but must also be kept carefully, with adherence to government regulations and corporate governance policies so that it may be easily retrieved at any point in time. This is why Atempo is entering the enterprise archiving market with the Atempo Archive Server which was designed with long-term data retention in mind. With advanced data classification management and robust search capabilities, Atempo Archive Server is the independent archiving platform our customers have been looking for to protect critical files, directories and unstructured data types.”
