Alcatel and Motive Inc. have announced they will jointly develop and market software to enable service provider remote management of "Triple Play" home networking devices that deliver IP-based voice, video, data.
The software will automate the deployment and management of residential gateways, home networking devices required for Triple Play networking, regardless of vendor or platform. According to Motive CEO Scott Harmon, recent advances in broadband networking have made the delivery of Triple Play services an attractive opportunity for service providers, "Our relationship with Alcatel will help operators worldwide implement Triple Play strategies that bring new information, communication and entertainment services to consumers, enabled by the combination of powerful broadband network solutions and customer service management technologies," he said in a statement.
The residential gateways are a key component in Triple Play services, connecting all of the various networked devices in what Motive calls the digital home to the service provider's network. The challenge for Alcatel and Motive is to develop software that can dynamically manage the constantly-changing network environment within the digital home while delivering high-volume, user-friendly advanced services.
"Effective home network management is a must-have for service providers to profitably deliver Triple Play services," Alcatel chief operating officer for fixed communications activities Michel Rahier said in a statement. "Our agreement with Motive is a further step in making these services a reality for our customers and their end-users."
