"Proved prior "invention" should prevent subsequent patenting by another (rather than just proved prior use). "Novelty" is in the eye of the beholder and is poorly defined. (For example: a new legal category like "microlight" aircraft allows patenting of old concepts applied to an artificial arbitrary construct."

"I remember when I took over an IT shop early in my career where we had a mysterious server crash at 8pm every night except for weekends. After much sleuthing I discovered that the server in the "server room" - more like a conference room - was plugged into a switch operated wall socket! The cleaning lady would turn off the lights at 8pm every night like she was told."
