PITTSBURGH -- Sherpa Software today announced that

Rockwell Collins, a worldwide leader in the design, production and support

of communication and aviation electronics, uses Sherpa Software's Mail

Attender for Lotus Notes to manage compliance and record retention

requirements for locations (or offices) across the United States.

As part of Rockwell Collins' overall records retention strategy, email was

selected as the first area to focus the effort and a formal RFP was sent

out to the Archiving and Records Management market in search of a suitable

solution. Mail Attender was installed and allowed Rockwell Collins toreduce the amount of stored data by nearly 30 percent in two months.

In order to define how information was to be archived and for what

retention lengths, Rockwell Collins conducted intensive interviews across

the company to determine which departments within the company required whattypes of retention periods. Based on those interviews, a sophisticated

categorization method was established that included over 400 record series

classifications. Depending on the assigned categorization, emails would

then be moved to an archive, retained in the mailbox for a defined period

of time or deleted.
