Hewlett-Packard Co. on Monday said it has agreed to acquire privately held RLX Technologies Inc., and plans to add the smaller company's Linux-based management software to HP products. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition, which is expected to close in 30 days, would enable HP to deliver better management technology for Linux on blade server environments, the Palo Alto, Calif., company said. RLX, headquartered in Spring, Texas, has 36 employees and about 200 customers.
RLX technology fits into HP's overall strategy of providing a "unified infrastructure management solution across Linux, Unix and Windows operating environments," HP said in a statement. HP has a suite of server, storage and enterprise management software that could incorporate RLX technology.
"Following our recently announced acquisitions of AppIQ and Peregrine Systems, RLX represents another step in HP's expanding enterprise management capabilities to help enterprise and small and medium business customers simplify their IT environments and cut costs," Rick Becker, vice president and general manager for HP BladeSystem, said.
