FalconStor Software is now offering 64-bit versions of its products for Windows and Linux, has expanded its support for iSCSI and qualified its VirtualTape Library software for use with leading backup and recovery solutions.
The Melville, N.Y.-based storage vendor's new 64-bit IPStor software supports 16,000 virtual disks, four times more than the 32-bit version supports. In addition, its iSCSI Storage Server for Windows Storage Server 2003 running on the 64-bit platform achieves a wire speed equivalent to a hardware-based host-bus adapter (HBA).
FalconStor said its solutions running on 64-bit platforms can improve I/O compression performance by as much as 40 percent vs. 32-bit platforms. Plans call for 4-Gbyte PCI-x Fibre Channel HBAs to be supported in future products, according to the company.
FalconStor's VirtualTape Library software solution has been qualified for interoperability and compatibility with popular backup and recovery solutions. Qualified vendors and products include BakBone Software's NetVault, CommVault's Galaxy, Computer Associates International's BrightStor ARCserve Backup, EMC's Legato NetWorker, Hewlett-Packard's OpenView Storage Data Protector and Veritas Software's Backup Exec.
FalconStor products support Windows Server 2003, Windows Storage Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000, and the company just expanded its support for iSCSI, a protocol that transports block-level storage traffic over IP networks.
