New processor delivers high performance advanced data reduction and encryption offload for next generation data center storage.
September 30, 2009
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Exar Corporation (NASDAQ:EXAR) today expanded its solutions for enterprise storage applications with the introduction of the new Hifn 9725 PCI-Express Applied Services Processor (ASP), an advanced data reduction and encryption processor. The processor powering the Company's successful Express DR 1600 cards, the 9725 ASP offers compression, hash acceleration for deduplication, and encryption in a power-efficient, small footprint device.
"The 9725 ASP coupled with its comprehensive software suite enables OEM development of leading-edge storage capacity optimization and data encryption solutions," said Zack Mihalis, senior director, marketing, Exar. "The chip's CPU offload capability enables better utilization of valuable CPU resources to improve overall system performance and maximize overall performance per Watt. In today's IT environment, efficient CPU utilization is increasingly important as customers are deploying more virtualization for server consolidation across their data centers."
The focus on protecting user data and increasing utilization of data center resources with compression, deduplication and encryption are rapidly becoming mainstream in today's IT environment. The 9725 ASP enables OEMs to integrate these capabilities without requiring additional power-hungry general purpose processors. The 9725 Software Development Kit (SDK) utilizes a new Unified API which provides complete software failover capabilities and superior end-to-end data protection. By using the new API, OEMs can customize the 9725 ASP to address their unique system designs and operating system environments.
About the 9725 ASP
The 9725 ASP provides power efficient CPU offload with a throughput of up to 1,800 MB/sec. The device can simultaneously perform data compression, encryption and hash functions on data. This level of performance and flexibility, coupled with the low power consumption and small footprint enables the 9725 ASP to address the requirements of a broad set of applications and market segments, including Network Attached Storage (NAS), Direct Attached Storage (DAS), Storage Area Networks (SANs), replication, and backup. The 9725 SDK supports Windows and Linux operating systems. For more information on the 9725 ASP visit -- http://www.hifn.com/products.aspx?id=5126.
