SEATTLE, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Isilon Systems (NASDAQ:ISLN) today announced that ARM has deployed the new Isilon IQ 10000X-SSD to accelerate replication of hundreds of millions of files. The Isilon IQ 10000X-SSD implements Solid State Drive (SSD) technology specifically for metadata-based namespace operations (see separate release), improving data replication, backup and recovery operations. Using the 10000X-SSD in combination with Isilon's asynchronous data replication software SyncIQ, ARM can identify changed files within its massive data stores and replicate these files to a secondary Isilon IQ 12000X nearline archive in only two hours - compared to 17 hours without the 10000X-SSD. With Isilon IQ, ARM can now meet the stringent recovery point objectives (RPO) for its mission-critical microprocessor design data, safeguarding its core intellectual property and increasing operational efficiency.

"Our business never stops - 'round the clock' doesn't begin to describe the rate at which we design, manufacture and bring to market the technology companies around the world use to power digital devices and networks," said Mark Burrows, IT operations manager, ARM. "As such, data loss is simply not an option. We need to replicate our chip design data at the speed of our business and with Isilon's unique implementation of SSDs we can do exactly that, and at much less cost than was previously possible."

"There are few workflows as mission-critical as microprocessor design and ARM has long defined the state-of-the-art in this market," said Sam Grocott, VP of Marketing, Isilon Systems. "ARM's use of our new SSD products is indicative of the benefits these products can have not only for electronic design automation and enterprise manufacturing, but for any business that needs to replicate massive quantities of data faster and more reliably than is possible with traditional NAS and SAN."

ARM designs the semiconductors and microprocessors that power many of today's digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices. ARM's product offering includes 32-bit RISC microprocessors, graphics processors, enabling software, cell libraries, embedded memories, high-speed connectivity products, peripherals and development tools.
