Versata Inc. this week launched application development tools for the JBoss application server.

The JBoss version of the Versata Logic Suite provides a declarative, model-driven approach to building data-intensive applications and business processes for the open source, Java-based JBoss.

Versata Logic enables developers to replace programming with a development approach based on business rules and data models, which reduces development time and eliminates the need for error-prone programming of service components, officials with the Oakland, Calif., company said.

In addition, Versata's declarative approach reduces life-cycle costs by enabling developers to make application changes by modifying the underlying business rules.

"Versata provides a proven enterprise-class platform for application, workflow and master data management development for the growing JBoss user community," Brett Adam, chief technology officer and vice president of Versata, said in a statement.Versata Logic also supports IBM's WebSphere and BEA Systems Inc.'s WebLogic application servers.
