PALO ALTO, Calif. -- VMware, Inc., the virtualization software leader, today announced that the United States Marine Corps (USMC) is deploying VMware products and services across its data centers and mobile combat units worldwide.

VMware software products and services enable the USMC to increase the availability, security, continuity, and sustainability of its enterprise while decreasing event recovery time. This deployment lays the foundation for a long-term virtualization strategy designed to expertly serve users whose lives depend on continuous on-demand access to mission-critical applications and information.

  • VMware Infrastructure enables the Marines to achieve an aggressive server consolidation goal; to reduce its physical infrastructure from 300 data centers worldwide, which today includes approximately 12,000 physical servers, down to 30 data centers and 100 mobile platforms.

  • VMware Infrastructure provides secure, high availability and the robust event recovery necessary to sustain successful military operations around the world.

  • VMware ACE provides complete portability through secure, virtualized

desktops that can be carried on a USB thumb drive and deployed on any PC, enabling mobile combat units to access computing environments on

the fly and from any location.

  • VMware training and professional services allow the USMC to quickly and effectively enable all levels of users regardless of location, as well as provide a framework for developing and maturing strategic infrastructure virtualization strategies for years to come.

"The Marines are well-positioned to tackle the challenges of 21st century military operations," said Aileen Black, Vice President of VMware's Federal Sales Division. "We look forward to continuing our work with the Marine Corps as it rolls out a sophisticated infrastructure virtualization strategy."
