SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Brocade(R) (Nasdaq: BRCD), the leader in networked storage solutions today announced that Swiss Re (virt-x: RUKN), one of the world's leading reinsurance companies, has implemented 4 Gbit/sec Brocade 48000 Directors for the expansion of the Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure at its two data centers. The new directors serve as the foundation to consolidate the company's open systems and mainframe storage environments in a centralized infrastructure, an important part of Swiss Re's technology consolidation strategy.
"Swiss Re now relies on a uniform SAN platform from Brocade in its two data centers," said Markus Echser, Storage Management Team Leader at Swiss Re. "Consolidation onto the Brocade 48000 Director in both the mainframe and open systems environments has brought substantial consistency to our operations across both mainframe and open systems architectures. This means that we have cut our administrative outlay and we are also well prepared to cope with future data growth."
With 256 Fibre Channel ports and adaptable speeds of 1, 2, or 4 Gbit/sec, the Brocade 48000 Director provides a reliable platform for Swiss Re's SAN environment. Forward and backward compatibility with the Brocade SAN solution family also helps protect the company's existing technology investments.
"Consolidating the SAN infrastructure onto the Brocade 48000 Director means that Swiss Re has the most technologically advanced storage environment that is currently available," said Renato Del Favero, Brocade Country Manager Switzerland. "The high performance, scalability, and availability of Brocade directors are designed to meet the most demanding requirements for a modern SAN, with the option of flexible expansion if the need arises."
