FREMONT, Calif. SGI, a global leader in HPC, storage and data center solutions, today announced the release of SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500, a fully integrated storage server that offers high density and power efficiency in an extremely cost-effective package. Leveraging SGI's expertise in compute and storage systems, SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500 (ISS3500) is a solutions-focused platform aimed at environments in which data and compute need to be tightly coupled. SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500 is available immediately. Pricing can be provided upon request.

With support for low latency protocols, including iSER for iSCSI over InfiniBand, ISS3500 is a perfect target for high performance computing (HPC) clusters such as SGI Altix ICE. Additionally, applications such as video surveillance, data warehousing and object storage for Lustre strongly benefit from the platform's speed and density capabilities. "With organizations looking for a fully integrated storage server solution, SGI InfiniteStorage Server 3500 offers customers a flexible yet powerful platform," said Bill Mannel, vice president of product marketing at SGI. "This is a system that addresses high performance requirements, but at an aggressive price point."

ISS3500 also leverages SGI's rich suite of InfiniteStorage software solutions such as Data Migration Facility (DMF) to virtualize multiple disk types in one system. This gives customers the ability to precisely tune the system to specific needs without compromise. "SGI has a rich history of delivering high performance file serving solutions to very large data environments," said Natalya Yezhkova, research director, Storage Systems at IDC. "The flexibility and pricing of the InfiniteStorage Server 3500 give SGI an opportunity to bring its expertise to a much broader customer base."

ISS3500 in a 4U chassis features 36 drive bays for 3.5" SATA, SAS and SSD drives to pack up to 72TB into a single system at a price point of less than $0.90/GB. The ISS3500 also includes high-availability features as standard, including redundant power supplies and a redundant, hot-pluggable cooling system. ISS3500 features the latest Intel dual-socket processors to provide full x64 application compatibility. It is available with a variety of standard storage protocols, including iSER, iSCSI, NFS and CIFs. It is also bundled with SGI's award-winning XFS file system, the industry leader in performance and scalability. Additionally, the ISS3500 includes a choice of infrastructure connectivity including Ethernet, InfiniBand and 10Gb Ethernet to enable maximum compatibility with existing environments.
