LAWRENCE, Mass. -- With thousands of Centera implementations worldwide, the CAS (Content Addressed Storage) storage technology from EMC has quickly established itself as the Gold Standard platform for the long term archival of Corporations persistent data. With large adoption among the Global 2500, EMC Centera users are faced with increasing requirements to implement detailed disaster recovery solutions while ensuring such concepts stay within budget – a daunting task given the only available solution today for Centera DR requires a “replicated” Centera.

Boston based Seven Ten Storage Software, Inc., is heading in another direction with the latest release of StorFirst Altus, the industries only compliant tape/VTL-based DR for Centera. As one of the original 13 technology companies who integrated with EMC Centera, Seven10 uses it’s wealth of engineering IP in delivering a DR solution exclusively built for Centera and the on-disk CAS format.

StorFirst Altus connects through the Centera API and stores data in a revision-protected manner on cost-effective Tape or VTL. The guarantee of revision-protection comes from the fact that the software communicates directly with the Centera API and replicates the respective C-Clips directly onto a StorFirst-supported Tape or VTL device. Therefore the authenticity, auditability and security of the data on the Altus DR target is guaranteed at all times. Since the Centera is purpose built as an archive solution, any changes to data fundamentally result in the creation of new C-Clips. StorFirst Altus offers both full and incremental replication and restores which efficiently eliminates over-inflated capacity due to multiple back-ups of unchanging data.
