SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Pillar Data Systems, a leading provider of enterprise network storage systems, today announced that RedEnvelope, the online gift- giving Web site, has chosen the Pillar Axiom storage system to safely store all of its customers’ personal information and files.

Founded in 1997, RedEnvelope is a leading online retailer specializing in all-occasion gift-giving. Through specialized customer service like personal shopping and real-time inventory tracking, RedEnvelope has built its brand as the premiere site to buy gifts on the Web.

The demands of a busy Web site, including countless customer records and files, prompted RedEnvelope to look for an agile storage system with leading reliability that would keep total cost of ownership to a minimum. After reviewing competing solutions from leading storage vendors, IT managers at RedEnvelope selected the Pillar Axiom storage system, with future plans for standardization on the Pillar platform. Among the key factors in that decision were the overall ease of use and efficiency of the Pillar Axiom system. Pillar’s solution also helped keep the total cost of ownership low, allowing RedEnvelope to grow and attract new customers.

“After being in this business for 10 years, we experienced our busiest holiday season in 2006,” said Dale Emel, Director, Technology Services, RedEnvelope. “In the end, it is all about the customer experience. By deploying the Pillar Axiom, we were able to very efficiently store important customer information and user preferences, which helped us offer the best customer service as possible.”
