RBS Expands VMware Compatibility
Remote Backup Systems expands VMware compatibility for RBS server
December 11, 2007
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Remote Backup Systems Inc. (RBS), the originator of remote online backup technology, today announced that its award-winning RBackup remote backup software is now fully compatible with VMware Server, opening up the virtual world of VMware to the safety and cost benefits of RBS’ remote online backup protection.
VMware Server compatibility expands the support by RBS for VMware and follows the company’s previous announcement of support for VMware ESX. RBackup Server can run as an application or a service under VMware. It supports multi-threading to handle multiple simultaneous connections and allows mapping of backup clients to specific drives, enabling multi-drive arrays. RBackup can also take advantage of VMware’s support for legacy operating systems, providing a simple and secure solution for protecting legacy data hosted on a virtual machine without the time, cost, and complexity of deploying a new physical server. RBackup runs on all versions of Windows including Windows 95, 98, NT, XP, ME, 2000 and 2003 in addition to its current Vista support.
VMware Server enables organizations to implement production server consolidation and provide advanced business continuity by creating multiple virtual machines that operate on one physical server. Server virtualization takes advantage of the power of the current generation of multi-core CPUs to maximize server hardware utilization and simplify administration by consolidating servers on a single physical device.
“Support for VMware is another major milestone in expanding the impact of RBackup,” said Rob Cosgrove, Chief Executive Officer at RBS. “Server virtualization is a key enabling technology for businesses and this move greatly increases the value of RBackup for our service providers and enduser customers.”
