ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced an HBA virtualization solution for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server environments from Novell. Novell is the first vendorto support the QLogic(r) N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) technology forLinux operating systems, allowing storage administrators to createvirtual HBA ports using a comprehensive systems management tool.Novell(r) ZENworks(r) Orchestrator and Virtual Machine Management, aninnovative component of the Novell data center management solution, notonly manages virtual machines (VMs) but also has the capability tocreate and provision virtual HBA ports across multiple physicalservers. Storage administrators who deploy ZENworks Orchestrator andVirtual Machine Management along with QLogic SANblade(r) 2400 Series4Gb Fibre Channel HBAs can now create virtual machines and ports thatare easier to manage, maintain and support across the virtualized datacenter.

Without virtual HBA ports, storage administrators must use the physicalWorld Wide Port Name (WWPN) of the HBA to define fabric zones, maskstorage LUNs, and configure VMs. In addition, storage administratorstypically define one zone where all disks are exposed to every serverto support live migrations of VMs to new servers. This one-zone designcreates security concerns for disks with sensitive information andrequires the reconfiguration of the network if more than one zone isdefined. Virtual HBA ports allow storage administrators to bind VMs tostorage and define multiple zones using the virtual port parameters, creating an easier-to-manage and more secured virtualized environment.

"Novell ZENworks Orchestrator and Virtual Machine Management providecomprehensive tools to configure, deploy, and manage virtual machinesin a heterogeneous SAN environment," said Richard Whitehead, directorof product marketing for Novell. "Novell's cross-platform solutioncombined with NPIV capabilities from QLogic further simplifies theoverall management of virtual machines and related physical and virtualresources. As the first management tool to support NPIV on Linux,ZENworks Orchestrator and Virtual Machine Management allows customersto get the most out of their data center infrastructure."

"Novell has taken a leadership position in the server virtualizationmanagement market by releasing ZENworks data center managementproducts," said Amit Vashi, senior director of marketing, QLogic HostSolutions Group. "QLogic is first to market with NPIV technology forLinux OS environments, integrating the technology with the NovellZENworks Orchestrator and Virtual Machine Management tools and allowingstorage administrators to deploy virtual HBA ports for SUSE LinuxEnterprise Server platforms."
