WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- As a staffing, outsourcing and solutions provider with 300 employees across the U.S., Omega Resource Group must protect both internal data, as well as its clients information. The company’s tape backup and restore process was becoming time consuming, costly and unreliable. The firm turned to ExaGrid Systems, Inc., ( the leader in cost-effective and scalable disk-based backup, to streamline and significantly improve its data backup operations.

Since 1976, Brookfield, WI-based Omega Resource Group has helped companies nationwide to find engineers and other technical employees, and offered in-house engineering and design capabilities. Over the years, the firm’s data storage needs have changed significantly. Prior to choosing ExaGrid, the firm backed up its data onto tape each night from four different systems, each with its own backup solution. It now uses CA ARCserve®, in combination with the ExaGrid system, to back up data from workstations, Microsoft® SQL databases, file servers, Citrix servers and its Exchange server. Using ExaGrid’s unique byte-level data de-duplication technology, the company has reduced its backup window by 1/3, and the backup data consumes far less storage space than would have been required with standard SATA storage to keep its required backup history.

“Tape backups were becoming too cumbersome and unreliable,” said Rich Yager, systems administrator at Omega Resource Group. “What sold us on ExaGrid was the byte-level data de-duplication, which offers a quick ROI. Backup time went from nine hours to 3.5 hours, and the system runs by itself. The ExaGrid system runs smoothly so we can focus on our core business competency.”
