Mellanox Boosts HP Performance
Mellanox InfiniBand boosts performance for HP's Cluster Platform Workgroup System
November 14, 2007
RENO, Nev. -- Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX)(TASE:MLNX), a leading supplier of semiconductor-based, server and storage interconnect products, today announced that its ConnectX InfiniBand adapters and switch blade modules are available for the HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System. The HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System is an affordable, easy-to-install HPC computing platform that provides supercomputing performance for small to mid-sized businesses and workgroup environments that want to leverage HPC technologies to gain a competitive edge.
The system is based on the HP BladeSystem c3000 architecture. A Mellanox-based ConnectX IB 20Gb/s InfiniBand mezzanine card adapter can reside on each server blade in the enclosure to provide high-performance connectivity to the processor through a PCI Express interface.
According to IDC's most recent Worldwide Technical Computing Systems report, the departmental and workgroup segments are the fastest-growing and largest segments of the HPC market, with aggregate (CAGR) growth exceeding 10% for the period 2006-2011, driven by the increasing applicability and financial benefits of HPC in smaller business environments and other organizations(a).
“Increasing business opportunities and competitive pressure are motivating small to midsize companies and workgroups to adopt and expand their use of HPC technology to reduce product design cycles, use higher fidelity models, and bring superior products more quickly to market. Demand is rapidly growing for HPC compute systems that can be located in small spaces rather than data centers," said Earl Joseph, program vice president, Technical Computing Systems. “The HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System with Mellanox InfiniBand is designed specifically to meet these requirements.”
